This movie about a couple of conspiracy nuts starring actors who’ve played Two-Face in Batman movies is definitely a two-sided coin. It’s an interesting plot, with immigrants kidnapped and implanted with exploding death chips in a desert island of a town in New Mexico called Wander. But while some performances are solid (Tommy Lee Jones, Aaron Eckhart, Heather Graham), others (pretty much everyone else) bring kind of a community-theater feel to their roles. Maybe that was an intentional direction choice, given how we’re supposed to puzzle over how much of what happens is real versus hallucination. It’s like Conspiracy Theory and Memento got stuck in The Fly‘s teleporter with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
In the end, it’s worth attention if you can get past some of the production choices.
