
On this day in 1931, actor and author William Shatner was born in Notre-Dame-de-Grace, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He’s best known for portraying the iconic Capt. James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek television series and movies. Later, he starred on T.J. Hooker, made an appearance in Airplane 2, played the “Big Giant Head” on Third Rock from the Sun, and went on to portray lawyer Denny Crane in The Practice and its spinoff, Boston Legal. His books include the TekWar series, which spawned a TV show. In 2006, he sold a kidney stone for $25,000 and used those proceeds to fund construction of a house by Habitat for Humanity.
