On this day in 1859, author Kenneth Graham was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He’s best known for children’s stories, such as The Wind in the Willows and The Reluctant Dragon. Before finding fame as an author, he worked at the Bank of England until he was allegedly shot at three times (all shots missed) and he left the job due to ill health.
