
On this day in 1938, writer Judy Blume was born in Elizabeth, N.J. Since 1969, she’s written more than two dozen novels, including Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret, Deenie, and Blubber. Her novels have been praised for teaching young people about their bodies, but have also faced criticism and controversy, resulting in her becoming a frequently challenged author, according to the American Library Association.
