Word Archaeology: dendrochronology

This word, first used about 1928, refers to tree-ring dating, which allows the determination of a tree’s age based on their growth rings and provides data about climate and atmospheric conditions during the tree’s history. The word comes from the ancient Greek “dendron” (tree), “khronos” (time), and “logia” (study of).
