Sagikake, or Pathfinder, was the first Japanese interplanetary spacecraft – making Japan, at the time, the first nation outside the United States or Soviet Union to launch a deep-space probe. In 1986, Sagikake made a flyby of Halley’s Comet during the comet’s passage through the inner solar system.
