On this day in 1964, the musical “Hello, Dolly!” opened on Broadway in New York City, starting a run that lasted 2,644 performances. Based on Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker, “Hello, Dolly!” follows the adventures of Dolly Gallagher Levi as she seeks a match for Horace Vandergelder.
